Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) has been detected at the Olausskjæret site in Frøya municipality, Trøndelag county, Norway.
The site, operated by SalMar and owned by Refsnes Laks, reported suspicion of ISA to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) on June 14. The suspicion was based on PCR analysis results from samples taken at the location.
Mattilsynet confirmed the diagnosis on July 12, following verification by the Norwegian Veterinary Institute.
To prevent the spread of the infection, restrictions have been imposed on the site, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. Mattilsynet may also mandate the emptying of the site.
An ISA restriction zone has been established in Frøya, comprising a protection zone and a surveillance zone, which includes traffic restrictions around the site.
