ILA confirmed at Mowi sea site in Flatanger, Trøndelag.

Infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) has been confirmed at the sea site Bjørgan (locality 12625) in Flatanger municipality in Trøndelag. The site is owned and operated by Mowi Seawater Norway AS.

Mowi notified the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) on 24 November 2025 after sampling and PCR analyses of fish at the site returned results consistent with ISA. The diagnosis was confirmed by Mattilsynet on 10 December 2025, based on analyses carried out by the Veterinary Institute.

Restrictions have been imposed on the site to limit the risk of disease spread, including a ban on the movement of fish without special permission. All activity in the area related to aquaculture is subject to heightened biosecurity requirements.

A restriction zone will be established around the affected site to prevent, limit and control the spread of ISA. The zone will include both a protection zone and a surveillance zone, with restrictions on traffic and operations in the surrounding area. The final extent of the zone will be determined based on local conditions, including the number of nearby sites, distance and current patterns, but is expected to cover an area of approximately 10 to 20 kilometres from the infected locality.

The confirmed case will be published on BarentsWatch’s interactive map of aquatic animal disease incidents.
