Isfjord Norway has stopped using raw materials sourced from Mowi in products supplied to Norgesgruppen, following media reports on the origin of feed ingredients used in salmon production.

The move comes after coverage by E24 and Nettavisen that salmon produced by Mowi had been fed with rapeseed oil and soy protein concentrate originating from Russia. Imports of such feed ingredients to Norway increased by more than 70% last year, despite broader efforts to limit trade following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Isfjord, which produces private label brands including First Price and Fiskemannen, said it was not aware that Mowi used feed inputs from Russia. Norgesgruppen has also stated it was unaware of the sourcing.

Trade in agricultural commodities such as rapeseed oil and soy protein concentrate from Russia remains exempt from sanctions and is legal.

Mowi said its feed operations comply with all applicable national and international regulations. The company has previously indicated that it plans to phase out imports of Russian-origin feed ingredients during 2026, alongside feed supplier Skretting, according to E24 and Nettavisen.
