Bakkafrost vessel returns to Kishorn Port as infrastructure upgrades continue.

The Bakkafrost Scotland vessel Bakkanes has returned to Kishorn Port following a refit and will begin loading smolt in the coming days, Kishorn Port Ltd (KPL) confirmed this week.

The arrival coincides with ongoing infrastructure improvements at the port’s dry dock, where KPL has recently completed concrete abutment works on both the east and west sides. These upgrades, which encase older sheet-piled walls, are part of the company’s wider effort to modernise and future-proof the site ahead of a £42 million expansion project.

Marine design engineers Wallace Stone LLP oversaw the abutment works, with specialist diving operations carried out by Shearwater Marine Services Ltd.

Work on the first phase of the expansion is due to begin this month and is expected to support 84 jobs over the next 18 months. Once completed, the project aims to position the Wester Ross port as a key site for offshore wind logistics and the manufacturing of concrete floating foundations, with the potential to support up to 1,500 jobs.

The expansion is being supported by £24 million in funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), part of a broader £500 million Scottish Government commitment to develop port infrastructure and the offshore wind supply chain.
