Korshags launches frozen land-based salmon sourced from Salmon Evolution.
Swedish seafood company Korshags Food has launched a frozen land-based salmon product supplied by Norwegian producer Salmon Evolution, as part of its strategy to expand the use of alternative raw materials within the seafood category.
The Falkenberg-based company said the product would broaden distribution of land-based farmed salmon through a frozen format designed for higher volumes and wider retail reach.
The new launch builds on two hand-smoked products introduced in 2025 that use the same raw material.
“The seafood category is facing a necessary transition. With land-based salmon, we can combine high quality and exceptional taste with a farming method that benefits the oceans and animal welfare. This is not a niche project, but a concrete step toward the future of salmon,” said Sofia Ek, responsible for innovation at Korshags and CMO at Ocean Collective.
The salmon is produced by Norway-based Salmon Evolution at its land-based facility in Hustadvika on the country’s west coast. The company uses filtered seawater in a controlled farming system designed to limit environmental impact and disease risk.
According to the companies, the system eliminates the risk of escapes and enables waste recovery for use in biogas and fertilizer production. The fish is certified under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standard.
“We are pleased to introduce our responsibly raised landbased salmon to Swedish consumers through Korshags’ carefully selected portfolio. Their introduction of salmon portions, frozen and preserved at peak freshness, reflects an exciting step in delivering sustainable, high-quality salmon to a wider audience,” said Odd Frode, Chief Commercial Officer at Salmon Evolution.
Korshags is majority-owned by Swedish industrial group Ocean Collective, which acquired the company in early 2023 and has positioned sustainable seafood as a central pillar of its growth strategy.
“Our ambition is to lead the way and drive real change in how seafood is produced and consumed. This launch is a concrete example of how we turn sustainability ambitions into business,” said Jörgen Bergqvist, CEO and founder of Ocean Collective.
Salmon Evolution, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker SALME, operates a land-based grow-out facility at Indre Harøy in Norway and a smolt facility in Dale. The company was founded in 2017 and focuses on land-based salmon production using a hybrid flow-through seawater system.
