Innovasea’s expansion into Iceland will be managed from its Norway office, in partnership with Icelandic technology company KAPP.

Innovasea, a US-based aquaculture technology and equipment supplier, has announced that its land-based aquaculture systems are now available in Iceland.

The company is collaborating with Thor Salmon, which is installing Innovasea’s Gas Management Towers (GMT) at its new smolt facility in Thorlakshofn, South Iceland.

Innovasea’s GMT technology utilizes gravity rather than pressure to manage water flow, potentially reducing energy costs by up to 77% compared to traditional oxygenation systems, according to a press release from the company.

Thor Salmon will employ three GMTs, along with dissolved oxygen sensors and an automated control panel, to remotely monitor and manage oxygen levels in its smolt production facility. The facility is part of the company’s plan to produce 20,000 metric tons of salmon annually.

Innovasea’s expansion into Iceland will be managed from its Norway office, in partnership with Icelandic technology company KAPP, which will deliver and support Innovasea’s solutions in the country.

“This collaboration provides us with an efficient gas management solution that will enhance our smolt production,” said Thor Salmon co-founder Jonatan Thordarson.

KAPP CTO Valthor Hermannson commented, “By partnering with Innovasea, we are making the latest aquaculture technology available to the Icelandic market, helping drive the industry forward.”
