Andfjord Salmon completes successful smolt release at Kvalnes site.
Andfjord Salmon has completed a successful smolt release at its land-based aquaculture facility at Kvalnes, Andøy, Norway.
On 30 September, approximately 350,000 smolt with an average weight of 180 grams were stocked into pool K0. The company said the release went as planned and that the fish have adapted quickly to the new environment, with stable pool conditions supporting the transfer.
Chief executive Martin Rasmussen said the release marked an important milestone for the company.
“We have been looking forward to this day for quite some time. Our team of fish farming experts is excited about starting a new period of fish farming operations and eager to once again demonstrate the biological benefits of our proprietary flow-through system,” Rasmussen said.
Andfjord plans to release a further 750,000 smolt in pool K1 in late October as part of its production ramp-up.
The company has been expanding its site infrastructure since completing its first production cycle in June 2023. Developments include new pools, a harbour area, and waterways designed to support large-scale production. The Kvalnes facility has a planned capacity of about 48,100 tonnes HOG and post-smolt.
Andfjord Salmon is headquartered at Andøya in Vesterålen, Norway. In its previous production cycle, the company reported a survival rate of 97.5 percent and a feed conversion ratio of 1.05.
