Santa Monica Seafood recalls Aldi-branded salmon due to undeclared allergen.
Santa Monica Seafood has issued a voluntary recall of its Atlantic Salmon Portions with Seafood Stuffing, sold at Aldi stores in California, Nevada, and Arizona, due to the presence of undeclared soy.
The Rancho Dominguez-based seafood processor identified the labelling error during a routine inspection of packaging proofs. The 16-ounce product, sold under the Aldi brand, carries a use-or-freeze-by date of 2 June 2025.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that individuals with a soy allergy or severe sensitivity risk serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if the product is consumed. No illnesses have been reported.
Consumers are advised to return the affected product to Aldi for a full refund. Santa Monica Seafood can be reached for further inquiries at 1-800-969-8862, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST.
The recall comes amid a broader rise in U.S. food recalls. In 2024, 300 recalls were issued, linked to nearly 1,400 reported illnesses and 19 deaths, according to a report by the Public Interest Research Group.
