All production at Chilean processor Surproceso has reportedly been stopped after a man on overnight cleaning detail died of crushing injuries suffered in the vicinity of the plant’s cooling equipment for salmon.
According to Soy Chile, Patricio Silva Silva, 52, was pinned to or by the equipment. Workers found the man unconscious at 8 o’clock in the morning after what would have been his eight-hour shift.
Chilean national police, the PDI, reportedly described the death as a “tragic accident”, however production was put on hold so aninvestigation could continue.
The processing company could face heavy fines if worker safety strictures are found to have been broken, Soy Chile reported.
