Marine Harvest in Scotland has said it intends to layoff 34 staff in expectation of harvesting far fewer salmon in 2018 from its remote, western Scottish grow-outs, the BBC has reported.
Workers who joined the company as seasonal help are among those to be let go, and the company reportedly said it’s “very sorry” for the action.
The job losses are reportedly 50-50 between grow-out help and processing-line staff.
The BBC reported a company manager as saying the company would work to find new jobs for those let go.
