“We can’t say anything concrete about what’s in it, but we consider it suspicious. There is a rope-like object going around it.”

A sealed freezer has been discovered on the seafloor by a company conducting work for salmon farming giant Cermaq.

Police in Norway are investigating reports of the discovery of submerged freezer found off the coast near Innhavet in Hamarøy.

This area is noted for being the last known location of Stian Hole, who has been missing since June 2023.

Despite no current evidence to associate the freezer with Hole’s disappearance, the police are planning to retrieve the item, located at a depth of approximately 250 meters, for further examination.

Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Torje Imøy of the Nordland police department acknowledged the recovery of information regarding an object resembling a freezer found underwater in Hamarøy but has not confirmed any link to the Stian Hole case.

“We can’t say anything concrete about what’s in it, but we consider it suspicious. There is a rope-like object going around it,” Imøy told VG.

At this point, police have no indication that there are any remains inside the freezer. However, due to the unusual nature of the find, the police aim to investigate further once the freezer is lifted from the seabed.

Imøy declined to speculate on potential outcomes if remains are discovered during the recovery operation.
