Pressure on small fish as spot prices hold for larger sizes.

Spot prices for Norwegian salmon are expected to dip slightly on smaller sizes next week, according to industry sources, while larger fish remain in stronger demand.

“Oslo prices are NOK 59–60 ($5.84–5.94/€4.96–5.04), 5–6 kg at NOK 65 ($6.44/€5.46) — good demand at five plus, [but] a little bit of pressure,” said one market participant. “So next week, pressure on small fish… maybe a little down on the smaller sizes, about the same on the 5 plus.”

Another exporter reported a similar trend, with softer demand in the mid-range sizes: “I’m seeing 3–4 kg at NOK 55–56 ($5.45–5.54/€4.62–4.70), and 4–5 kg at around NOK 57 ($5.64/€4.79). The market’s not exactly soft, but it’s not firing either. Larger sizes are holding value, but smaller fish are under a bit of strain.”

Export volumes remain relatively high for the season, with producers continuing to clear biomass at elevated levels. Several sources point to steady activity in European markets, albeit with signs of caution from buyers.

Prices for 6+ kg fish vary more widely, with premiums available in markets such as airfreight-driven Asia, but some downward pressure reported elsewhere.
