Mowi joins SalMar and Lerøy in closed-cage expansion push.

Mowi has ordered four closed fish farms to be deployed in Western Norway, enabling the company to bring 2.6 withdrawn licences back into use in Region West, according to the company’s Q3 update, a story first reported by iLaks.

The sites are Rundereim (Stad), Slåttenes (Sunnhordland) and Vindsvik (Ryfylke).

The move follows SalMar and Lerøy’s purchase of six Aquatraz C2 units earlier this week and forms part of Mowi’s strategy to lift volumes while operating under red-light biomass constraints.

Mowi reiterated ambitions for continued organic growth, citing increased smolt releases on previously unused licences and higher post-smolt productivity; the company plans to produce ~40 million post-smolt in 2025 and targets >650,000 tonnes annual production by 2029.
