Mowi is seeking a screening opinion from Highland Council over plans to install a new feed system at the Corry fish farm on Loch Broom near Ullapool.
The proposal, submitted under the name Wester Ross Fisheries, includes ten new silos and a water-borne feed delivery system for the site, located around 300 metres northeast of Loggie.
Mowi acquired Wester Ross Fisheries in 2022, although the site continues to operate under the Wester Ross name for branding and administrative purposes.
According to documents filed with the council, the existing farm currently relies on hand feeding and feed cannon systems. The proposed upgrade would introduce ten silos mounted on pen walkways, with feed mixed with seawater and distributed underwater through multi-outlet hose systems.
The project would also require power from a hybrid generator. The site already operates a generator continuously to support underwater lighting systems used for anti-maturation purposes.
A noise impact assessment submitted with the screening request concluded that the proposed system would reduce noise levels compared with the current farm operation.
The environmental impact assessment screening request was validated by Highland Council on 27 April and remains under consideration.
