1100 escaped farmed salmon recaptured so far.
Efforts to recapture farmed salmon that escaped from the Kveitskjeret site last week are ongoing, with 1,100 fish retrieved so far, according to Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries.
The site, operated by Mowi on behalf of Blue Revolution Centre, a large-scale research station, reported the incident on Tuesday.
The salmon, averaging over five kilograms each, escaped from a containment cage. Mowi deployed recapture nets immediately, and the Directorate confirmed that recovery operations are continuing. The affected cage is in the process of being emptied, with harvest numbers expected to be reported next week.
Authorities have mandated that recapture efforts extend beyond the immediate 500-meter zone until 24 September.
The search area includes waters south of Sula and three nearby farming sites. Only fishermen contracted by the company are authorized to participate in the recovery operations.
