Mowi has been awarded a Great Taste star by the Guild of Fine Food for its fresh Scottish salmon fillets, marking the first time a product in this category has received the accolade.

The award, which was given to Mowi’s 230g twin-pack of Scottish salmon fillets, followed a blind tasting process involving more than 500 judges and 14,000 competing products. Judges noted the product’s “clean aroma and oily richness,” describing the texture as “firm yet tender” and praising the fillet’s “gentle straightforward flavour” and “lack of fatty flabbiness.”

While smoked salmon products have previously been recognised by the Guild, this is the first time a fresh salmon fillet has been selected.

Robin Brown, Technical and Development Director at Mowi Consumer Products UK, said the award was a reflection of the company’s long-standing expertise and attention to detail. “The Great Taste mark is a stamp of excellence and one of the most recognised accolades in the food and drink industry,” Brown said. “Our success is testament to the hard work and 60 years of expertise from the Mowi team at every stage from egg to plate.”

Mowi operates over 58 salmon farms on the west coast of Scotland and processes its retail products at its facility in Rosyth. The Mowi Scottish Salmon brand was launched in 2021 and is currently stocked by major UK retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Ocado and Amazon Fresh.

In addition to the Great Taste award, the brand is shortlisted for ASC Product of the Year and the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards’ Fish & Seafood Product of the Year for its smoked salmon range.
