Mowi has agreed to sell its Sighaug facility in Vanylven, Norway, to cod farming company Ode, which plans to convert the site for cod smolt and broodstock production.

Mowi will continue operating the facility through summer 2026 while managing the current fish population, before transferring operations and employees to Ode.

“We are pleased to have found a good solution for the production unit and the employees,” said Mowi regional director Asgeir Hasund. “This will ensure continued operations in Vanylven.”

Ode said the facility fits into its expanding cod farming value chain due to its workforce, location and potential for conversion.

“Ode has a strong need to expand land-based capacity, and Sighaug fits perfectly into our portfolio,” said Ode CEO Ola Kvalheim.

According to Kvalheim, the facility has already produced cod juveniles with good results under Mowi’s management and can be adapted for both smolt and broodstock production.

The companies said they will immediately submit a joint application to change the site’s licensed species from cleaner fish production to cod.

The transaction reflects Mowi’s continued rationalisation of non-core assets and growing investment in cod farming within Norwegian aquaculture.
