The Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) has presented its annual Hall of Achievement Awards at the 30th Cold Harvest Conference and Trade Show in St. John’s.
The awards, handed out at a gala dinner on 24 September, recognized four individuals and organizations for contributions to innovation, promotion and development of the province’s aquaculture sector.
Eco Axis received the Excellence in Innovation Award for its work on sustainable technologies and practices. Chef Steve Watson was named Aquaculture Ambassador for promoting Newfoundland and Labrador aquaculture products across Canada and internationally.
Fabian Manning Jr. was awarded Aquaculturist of the Year for his operational achievements and community engagement. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Cyr Couturier, recognized for decades of leadership, research and mentorship in the sector.
“The awards reflect the heart and soul of our industry,” said Keith Sullivan, executive director of NAIA. “Each recipient exemplifies the values of innovation, sustainability and community that define Newfoundland and Labrador aquaculture.”
