Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is suspected in Øygarden municipality, Vestland county, Norway.
The site is managed by Blom Fish Farming and Erko Seafood, according to a press release from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority on Monday, 22 July.
On 19 July, the Veterinary Institute notified the Norwegian Food Safety Authority of findings consistent with ISA on salmon at the site. ISA, which attacks the fish’s blood vessels, can lead to severe anemia and circulatory disorders.
To limit the spread of infection, restrictions have been imposed on the site, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. If the suspicion is confirmed, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority may order the site to be emptied.
