Skretting launches new plant-based functional feed aimed at improving fish resilience.
Skretting has announced the launch of Necto, a new functional health diet for fish incorporating plant-derived bioactive compounds known as EDGEOS PhytoComplexes. The company says the product marks a shift toward enhancing fish resilience rather than simply addressing disease resistance.
According to Skretting, Necto is the first feed in its portfolio to feature PhytoComplexes developed in collaboration with Nutreco Exploration, a division of its parent company that focuses on plant research and novel ingredient development. The new diet, which will be available in selected markets from late 2025, is designed to help fish withstand stressors, adapt to environmental challenges, and recover more effectively.
“With Necto, we are harnessing the complexity of plants and combining this with years of experience in health research, to create a truly innovative diet,” said Dr Linda Jensen, Skretting’s team lead for health.
The company says Necto was developed through a collaboration involving nine research partners across five countries. Independent studies cited by Skretting indicate that the feed supported fish health and survival rates across multiple species.
Dr Gordon Ritchie, Skretting’s global product manager for salmon health, described the formulation as a “powerhouse combination” of nutrition, functional ingredients, and PhytoComplexes that “supports normal immune function and physiological processes in healthy fish.”
Skretting, headquartered in Stavanger, Norway, is part of Nutreco and operates feed production facilities in 18 countries. The company produces more than three million tonnes of aquaculture feed annually for over 60 species.
