Nofima appoints new head of fish health department.
Nofima has appointed Kjetil Fyrand as the new head of its Fish Health Department. Fyrand joins the research institute from pharmaceutical company Pharmaq, where he worked in applied fish health research and management.
He will lead a team of 13 researchers based in Ås and Tromsø, with expertise in preventive fish health across breeding, nutrition and environmental management.
“My motivation for joining Nofima was the opportunity to engage more broadly within fish health,” Fyrand said. “At Nofima, fish health is at the heart of our research—whether it involves breeding, nutrition, or production environment.”
Linn Anne Brunborg, Nofima’s aquaculture division director and Fyrand’s new manager, said his industry background and ongoing industrial PhD would bring “new ideas and opportunities for the institute.”
Fyrand, 57, lives in Oslo and holds a cand.scient. degree in fish health from the University of Bergen. He began an industrial PhD in fish vaccinology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in 2021, which he is expected to complete this year.
