Norway’s trout trade starts year on weaker footing.

Norway exported 5,942 tonnes of trout worth NOK 560 million ($54.3 million/€49.3 million) in January, down NOK 121 million ($11.7 million/€10.6 million), or 18 percent, compared with the same month last year, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Export volume fell by 16 percent year-on-year.

Poland, Thailand and the United States were the largest markets for Norwegian trout in January.

Poland recorded the strongest growth in value, with exports up NOK 98 million ($9.5 million/€8.6 million), or 220 percent, compared with the same month last year.

Export volume to Poland reached 1,660 tonnes, an increase of 202 percent year-on-year.
