Norwegian land-based operator Salmon Evolution begins process to expand into North America

Norwegian producer Salmon Evolution said it is moving forward with its plan to expand into North America and has began the process of establishing a land-based salmon farming operation there.

In a statement released on Friday, the company suggested North America is the next frontier now that its approach to land-based salmon farming has proven successful.

Salmon Evolution is different from other operators growing market-size salmon in land-based facilities because it uses a hybrid flow-through system instead of recirculating aquaculture systems.

Early this month, the company astounded the industry after taking just 7 months to grow 300-gram salmon to harvest weight.

“Salmon Evolution is all about creating optimal living conditions for the salmon, which in turn sets the basis for excellent biological performance and long-term profitability,” Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen, Interim CEO and CFO of Salmon Evolution, said at that time.

The company did not mention any specific area in North America where it’s scouting a potential location.
