Onda awarded Ignition Fund grant to develop rapid diagnostic kits for aquaculture.

Onda, a Canadian contract research organization specializing in aquaculture health and innovation, has received a grant from the Ignition Fund to support the development of rapid diagnostic test kits for aquaculture.

The funding, announced on 15 April, will enable Onda to advance field-deployable tools for the early detection of pathogens affecting farmed fish and shellfish. The aim is to offer producers a faster and more cost-effective alternative to traditional laboratory testing, helping reduce losses and improve health management.

The Ignition Fund, administered by Innovation PEI, provides seed capital to support the development and commercialization of new products and technologies across Prince Edward Island.

Research and development will take place at Onda’s Souris facility, with collaboration planned between industry partners, government bodies, and academic researchers.
