Suspected ILA case reported at Mowi site in Namsos.
Norwegian authorities have received notification of a suspected outbreak of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) at the sea site Gyltneset (39537) in Namsos municipality.
Mowi and Patogen alerted the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) after PCR analyses on fish from the site indicated possible ISA. Mattilsynet will now carry out an inspection and collect new samples, which will be sent to the Norwegian Veterinary Institute for confirmation.
Restrictions are already in place at the site, prohibiting movement of fish without special permission. If the suspicion is confirmed, the company could be required to cull fish and implement fallowing procedures.
ILA is a notifiable viral disease in salmon. Outbreaks trigger control zones of 10 to 20 kilometres around affected sites, where strict biosecurity measures apply.
