Petuna founder Una Rockliff passes away aged 91.
Una Rockliff, who together with her husband Peter built one of Tasmania’s best-known seafood companies, has died at the age of 91.
The couple established Petuna in 1949, the name formed from the first syllables of their names. What began with one fishing boat gradually developed into a diversified enterprise that would become central to the state’s aquaculture sector.
In the early years, Peter worked at sea while Una sold fish directly to customers, first off the boat and later through a small shop in Devonport. Four decades later the family expanded into salmon and trout farming, positioning Petuna among Tasmania’s leading producers alongside Huon and Tassal.
Sealord of New Zealand acquired a 50 percent stake in 2010 and took full ownership in 2020.
The Rockliffs were recognised with the Industry Ambassador Award at the 2017 Australian Seafood Industry Awards for their contribution to fisheries and aquaculture.
Petuna described Una as a steady and influential presence whose role extended beyond business to the wider community.
