Strong production conditions lift salmon exports to record levels.

Norway exported 1,414,909 tonnes of salmon worth NOK 124.7 billion ($12.10 billion) in 2025, driven by strong volume growth, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Export value increased by NOK 2.2 billion ($0.21 billion), or 2 per cent, compared with the previous year, while export volumes rose by 13 per cent. The result represents a new record high for salmon export value, exceeding the previous record set in 2024 by NOK 2.2 billion.

Poland, the United States and France were the largest markets for Norwegian salmon during the year.

“Favourable production conditions, including high sea temperatures, resulted in strong growth in production in 2025. In addition to the increase in total volume, the average size of the fish also increased. This resulted in a shift in exports towards markets that want large fish,” said Paul T. Aandahl, seafood analyst at the Norwegian Seafood Council.
