Escape of farmed salmon reported in Bømlo.
Salmon producer Varde Fiskeoppdrett has reported damage to a pen at its Andal site in Bømlo municipality, Vestland county, Norway which may have led to an escape of farmed salmon.
The company notified authorities on 19 September after discovering significant damage to one of the pens at the location in Bømlafjorden. The fish in the pen are reported to weigh just over 2 kg.
Varde has deployed recapture nets but has not yet reported any fish recaptured. The scale of the incident has not been confirmed.
The Directorate of Fisheries said it is following up with inspections and has also received reports of farmed salmon being caught or observed in the Stord area.
