“There is a wide spread today. Depending on who you call, you get different answers. But it’s a good recovery from last Friday,” says a trader to SalmonBusiness.
“It’s powerful,” a sales manager at a fish farming company confirms.
This week is one of the busiest of the year. [factbox]
Our five industrial sources outline the following price range (to farmers) for salmon to be delivered to the market next week:
- 3-4 kilograms NOK 53-55 (€5.4-5.6)
- 4-5 kilograms NOK 54-57 (€5.5-5.8)
- 5-6 kilograms NOK 55-60 (€5.6-6.1)
- 6+ kilograms NOK 65-68 (€6.7-7.0)
This implies a price increase of €0.40-0.60 per kilogram from last Friday.
“The market is not better than it has been before. It’s less small fish – that’s what’s changed,” a processor’s buyer notes. “Next week, it’s going down again, because there will be more fish,” he says.
“Next week is the most important week for processing, but it will not be this year. Because the processors have bought so much earlier.”
Several traders points out that there is a wide gap between the price offered from the farmers against what the customers are willing to pay.
