The $500 billion Neom scheme is poised to be 33 times the size of New York City.
Land-based salmon company Pure Salmon has announced a partnership with Topian, the NEOM Food Company, to establish a land-based Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) salmon production facility in Neom.
This initiative marks the first of its kind in the region, aiming to meet the growing demand for salmon in Saudi Arabia and nearby markets.
NEOM, envisioned by Saudi Arabia, is a $500 billion development project in the northwestern Tabuk Province, poised to be 33 times the size of New York City. The smart city is located north of the Red Sea, east of Egypt across the Gulf of Aqaba, and south of Jordan.
Topian, founded in 2023, is dedicated to revolutionizing food production, distribution, and consumption within Saudi Arabia through sustainable and innovative methods. Supported by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Topian aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, focusing on food security, climate change mitigation, and achieving climate neutrality by 2060.
The proposed salmon facility is a collaborative effort between Pure Salmon and Topian, formalized by a Memorandum of Understanding.
Stephane Farouze, Chairman and Founder of Pure Salmon, emphasized the partnership’s alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and food security.
“We are thrilled to announce Pure Salmon’s strategic collaboration with Topian, the NEOM Food Company, to reshape the future of the aquaculture industry,” said Farouze. “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and food security — a commitment that resonates with the Saudi Vision 2030. We look forward to working with NEOM to drive positive change and deliver high-quality protein solutions in the Kingdom and beyond.”
The development has been backed by foundational supporters like the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Mubadala Capital since Pure Salmon established its global headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
This partnership is seen as a significant step in transforming aquaculture practices and advancing NEOM’s goals of sustainable and innovative food systems.
