ScaleAQ sells first closed cage system.
ScaleAQ has signed its first contract for the new closed-cage concept Heimdall, launched at AquaNor earlier this year.
Hardingsmolt, based on Norway’s west coast, will be the first buyer of the system. The agreement includes the purchase of one cage, with an option for additional units. Delivery is planned for autumn 2026, with the first post-smolt release scheduled the same year and grow-out production to follow in 2027. The cage will be deployed at Hardingsmolt’s Koløy N site between Stord and Bømlo.
ScaleAQ said the sale comes at an important time, following the government’s introduction of the new environmental flexibility scheme for fish farmers on the west coast. The company stated that the Heimdall system meets all regulatory requirements under the new framework.
“We are very pleased that an experienced operator such as Hardingsmolt has chosen our solution,” said Ben Øksnes, managing director of ScaleAQ CAS. “The Heimdall system has been developed to be modular, cost-effective and adaptable to changing environmental conditions.”
Hardingsmolt, which has operated closed systems since 2019, said the new cage would allow for greater capacity and efficiency. “Heimdall is a natural scale-up for us, based on the same principles as the units we already use,” said managing director Frode Sandven. “The concept offers strong water flow, oxygenation and sludge collection with low energy demand.”
The company said interest in the system has increased since AquaNor, supported by new regulatory incentives favouring closed production technologies.
