Ukrainian seafood brand Fish King hit by drone and missile strikes in one week.
The Ukrainian seafood brand Fish King (Дари моря), operated by IE Kulomza, has suffered two major attacks in the span of a week — first a drone strike that destroyed its production facility, and days later, a missile strike that injured several employees at one of its retail stores in Sumy.
The first attack occurred during the night of 7 April, when eight Russian drones struck the company’s processing plant in Sumy. The assault caused large explosions and fires, destroying four out of five production departments, cold storage infrastructure, office buildings, and around 400 tonnes of seafood. The facility was unoccupied at the time, and no casualties were reported.
Just six days later, on 13 April, a missile struck a Fish King retail store, again in Sumy. Surveillance footage published by Ukrainian outlet 24 Канал shows two explosions. The first allowed store staff to evacuate and attempt to assist nearby victims — but a second, larger blast occurred moments later, injuring multiple employees. The store manager was among the most seriously hurt and remains in hospital.
IE Kulomza, which operates 25 branded stores across Ukraine under the Fish King name, is one of the country’s most vertically integrated seafood firms. The company imports, processes, distributes, and retails frozen seafood products, employing around 350 staff.
In a previous statement following the drone strike, Natalia Tsibulskaya, head of procurement, said: “Everything changed overnight… Thank God no one was hurt [in the factory attack], but our cold storage and most of the plant are gone.” Clean-up and damage assessment have continued around the clock since the incident.
It remains unclear whether the company will be able to resume processing operations. Only a single smokehouse division was left functional after the drone strike.
The attacks have sparked concern over the fragility of Ukraine’s domestic food supply chain and the mounting risks faced by civilian infrastructure, including agri-food businesses. Fish King has been a significant economic contributor in the Sumy region and was previously one of its top taxpayers.
