Salmon remains dominant but wild species gain ground
Salmon remained by far the most valuable Norwegian seafood export in 2025, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council, with several wild-caught species also recording strong growth over the year.
Below are the ten largest species by export value in 2025:

Salmon: NOK 124.7 billion ($12.10 billion), up 2 per cent

Cod: NOK 12.7 billion ($1.23 billion), up 9 per cent

Mackerel: NOK 8.5 billion ($0.82 billion), up 2 per cent

Trout: NOK 7.4 billion ($0.72 billion), up 10 per cent

Saithe: NOK 4.3 billion ($0.42 billion), up 16 per cent

Herring: NOK 4.2 billion ($0.41 billion), unchanged year on year

Haddock: NOK 2.3 billion ($0.22 billion), up 36 per cent

Prawns: NOK 1.8 billion ($0.17 billion), up 12 per cent

Snow crab: NOK 1.6 billion ($0.16 billion), up 127 per cent

King crab: NOK 1.2 billion ($0.12 billion), up 46 per cent
While salmon continued to dominate export value, several whitefish and shellfish categories posted higher percentage growth, reflecting lower quotas, strong prices and shifting demand across global markets.
