Salmon sales rise to £1.5 billion in UK, value share reaches 32 percent.

UK retail sales of salmon rose 7.2 percent to £1.52 billion in the 12 months to August 2025, according to Seafish analysis of Nielsen NIQ data. Salmon accounted for 32 percent of total fish category value, which grew 3.7 percent to £4.77 billion.

Salmon remained the leading seafood species by value, selling at nearly three times cod. By comparison, cod rose 0.5 percent to £509.1 million, tuna increased 3.5 percent to £483.2 million and warm water prawns rose 7.0 percent to £460.6 million. Other notable movers included mackerel, up 9.1 percent to £162.8 million, while haddock declined 2.4 percent to £245.0 million.

Trade body Salmon Scotland said the data reflect sustained consumer demand and confidence in Scottish farmed salmon. Chief executive Tavish Scott said shoppers are choosing salmon for its health attributes and production standards, adding that the sector supports jobs in rural and coastal communities.

Salmon Scotland also said UK exports of Scottish salmon reached £941 million in the rolling 12 months to June 2025, up 33 percent year on year, and remain on track to exceed £1 billion for the full year. The organisation noted that retail “total salmon” figures include some non-Scottish salmon sold in the UK.
