Salmon spills across Trøndelag road after lorry overturns.

Around 19 tonnes of salmon were spilled onto a county road in central Norway on Monday evening after a semi-trailer transporting fish overturned in Trøndelag, forcing the closure of the entire carriageway for several hours.

The accident occurred on county road Fv 17 at Høylandet, between Kongsmoen and Foldereid. Police were alerted to the incident at 18:18 local time, according to local newspaper Namdalsavisa, as cited by iLaks.

According to an anonymous source quoted by iLaks, the driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend, causing the articulated lorry to jack-knife and block the road. Large parts of the cargo, estimated at around 19 tonnes of salmon, were scattered across the roadway.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration said traffic was diverted via the E6 or through Namsos while emergency services assessed the scene.

“There is no suspicion of drink driving,” said operations manager Trond Hangaas of the Trøndelag police district.

At around 20:00, Hangaas told VG that clean-up work had not yet begun, but that a crane truck was on its way to remove the vehicle so traffic could pass. By 21:20, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration reported that one lane had reopened with manual traffic control in place, adding that it was still unclear when the road would be fully reopened.
