Salmon workers test positive for COVID-19

Chile harvested 182,000 tons of farmed Atlantic salmon in Q1 2022, down 12.7 percent from Q1 2021

Salmones de Chile put staff into preventative measures.

In a statement, vertically integrated salmon farmer Salmones de Chile writes three workers have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Chonchi-(Southern Chile) based processor said that the workers were put into preventative quarantines outside its premises.

“Having seen the above, in order to protect the closest colleagues from the three diagnosed, their preventive isolation was carried out, this while the epidemiological investigation was completed to determine the close contacts if any,” it wrote.

It is not known if operations have been delayed.

Salmones de Chile has 44 salmon licences that operate in Los Lagos, and other southern areas of Chile.
