ScaleAQ adds net-cleaning drone company Probotic to portfolio.
Norwegian aquaculture equipment and technology company ScaleAQ has announced the acquisition of Probotic, a Narvik-based company developing autonomous drones for net inspection and cleaning in sea-based aquaculture systems.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, ScaleAQ said the strategic investment would enhance its focus on fish welfare and sustainability while expanding its technology portfolio. The acquisition is intended to strengthen the integration between net pens, floating collars, and cleaning systems to optimise the rearing environment.
Probotic was founded in 2019 by Mikkel Pedersen with the aim of improving cleanliness and safety in aquaculture. Its first commercial product, the Probot 1.0, launched in 2024 and has reportedly received positive feedback from the market. The company is currently led by CEO Michelle Børresen Opshaug.
“This strategic investment reinforces our position as a leading global supplier of aquaculture technology,” ScaleAQ stated. “We look forward to building on what has been developed and strengthening it through our expertise, network, and value chain in Norway and internationally.”
