ScaleAQ has appointed Cristian Sauterel as head of its operations in Chile, with effect from February.

Sauterel joins the aquaculture supplier after 12 years at Australis Seafoods, where he most recently served as head of production. He has also previously worked at Mowi. He holds a degree in veterinary medicine, an MBA from a Chilean university, and a Master’s degree in Management from a Spanish university.

Ben Øksnes, interim CEO of ScaleAQ Chile, said the company had conducted an extensive search to find a candidate with a strong understanding of the operational and biological challenges facing salmon farming in the country.

Sauterel has been involved in performance improvement initiatives at Australis, with a focus on data-driven production strategies.

“I am truly excited to join ScaleAQ Chile. There are significant opportunities to further develop the industry, and I am proud to become part of the ScaleAQ Group,” Sauterel said.

ScaleAQ CEO Audun Sivertsen said the appointment would support the company’s efforts to identify current and future challenges in Chilean salmon farming, with an approach grounded in biology.

Over the past year, ScaleAQ has invested in building its understanding of Chilean aquaculture and market conditions, which it said has informed a renewed strategy for the country.
