Sterner have been chosen as the RAS supplier for the international energy concern Fortum. The RAS delivery will aid in the conservation of the fish populations in the Klarälven and Vänern water courses.

Fortum operates in 10 countries and has more than 20,000 employees worldwide. The company operates an ambitious green strategy and is world leading in renewable energies. Fortum delivers electricity to almost 100,000 customers in Norway and is the leading energy provider in Sweden where the RAS system will be constructed.

Release 175,000 smolt annually swing
In line with the company’s focus on sustainability, we are working with population cultivation in rivers which have been used for water generated power.  At Gammalkroppa, we have taken the next step and developed a climate-adjusted cultivation system for both salmon and trout,” Macro Blixt, Fisheries Manager at Fortum, said.

Fortum currently has a flow through system at Gammalkroppa, from which 175,000 smolt are placed out into the Klarälven river and lake Vänern annually.

Establishing two new systems swing
Two new RAS systems will be delivered by Sterner.  A growth department consisting of 22 tanks with a diameter of six metres, and a brood fish department with 12 tanks each of eight metres diameter.

Brigitte Voss, Project Manager at Sterner, stated that this is a very exiting project for the company.

“‘The Gammalkroppa system will consist of state-of-the-art technology ensuring that the fish have optimal growth conditions at all times.  This ensures solid and robust growth prior to release into nature.  Additionally, the system will be controlled using Sterner Automation making daily operation easy while also monitoring vital key parameters.”
