Trident Aqua Services has taken delivery of a 93-metre live fish carrier, Inter Alba, which has entered operation in Scotland following delivery from Sefine Shipyard in December 2025.
With a well capacity of around 6,500 cubic metres, Inter Alba is currently the largest wellboat operating in Scotland, according to the company. The vessel has completed its first work period, performing combined freshwater and FLS treatment.
Inter Alba was designed by Salt Ship Design AS, with a stated focus on fish welfare, careful handling, and high biosecurity standards. The vessel features a substantial battery package, alongside a heat-recovery system and other efficiency measures intended to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The fish-handling system was delivered by MMC First Process, while the vessel is equipped with a freshwater production system capable of producing up to 15,000 cubic metres of freshwater per day. The reverse osmosis plant enabling this capacity was supplied by Peter Taboada.
Chief executive Arild Aasmyr said the delivery represented an important milestone for Trident Aqua Services and strengthened its fleet offering in Scotland, where the company operates vessels across a range of segments, capacities, and sizes.
Inter Alba is equipped with high-capacity freshwater treatment, including FLS delousing systems supplied by Flatsetsund Engineering. The vessel is intended to support gentle combinational treatments and strengthen Mowi Scotland’s ability to manage biological challenges such as sea lice and Neoparamoeba perurans, the parasite responsible for amoebic gill disease (AGD). The vessel also features a filtration system with a stated capacity of 52,800 cubic metres of water per hour for removal of sea lice and particulates.
Ben Hadfield, chief operating officer for farming in Scotland, Ireland and the Faroes at Mowi Scotland, said the freshwater treatment capacity would strengthen the company’s ability to manage fish health, welfare, and survival, while supporting consistent product quality. He added that the vessel reduces the need for licensed veterinary medicines and aligns with Mowi’s focus on minimising medicine use and promoting natural treatment methods.
Trident Aqua Services was formed in 2025 through the merger of FSV Group, Intership and Aquaship. The company operates a fleet of 63 vessels, with a further five under construction, and employs around 1,000 people. It provides vessel-based services to aquaculture producers under long-term contracts and has operations in Norway, Chile, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
