UK seafood industry trade group SeaFish has introduced a new Seafood Carbon Emissions Profiling Tool (SCEPT) designed to assist the industry in understanding and managing the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) associated with their products.

Aimed at businesses in both the wild capture and aquaculture sectors, the tool offers detailed insights into the carbon footprint of seafood products, highlighting specific ‘hotspots’ or areas within the supply chain that generate significant GHG emissions.

By inputting data into the SCEPT, seafood businesses can identify these emissions hotspots and make informed decisions to mitigate their impact, thereby facilitating more sustainable practices. The tool is geared towards helping the industry achieve Net-Zero emissions by providing essential information needed to address and reduce carbon emissions effectively.

The SCEPT is available online, replacing previous tools offered by SeaFish. Access to the secure part of the tool requires seafood businesses to complete a short online form, ensuring that sensitive data remains protected.

The tool has been developed by Blonk Sustainability Tools, a leading international environmental foot-printing software developer and data/methodology specialist.
