All-time high salmon prices and tasks of dealing with salmon lice gave the Silver wellboat company a healthy 40 percent operating margin in 2016.
According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv the company benefited from a profitable year in the industry.
“We received four new boats last year, have received two more this year and have another boat due for delivery in November. In two years we have doubled the fleet in terms of number of boats and tripled the cubic capacity of our fleet. When we manage to take full advantage of all the boats, the results will improve,” says Roger Halsebakk, General Manager of Silver.
Silver was previously known as Solvtrans.
The company uses the well boats increasingly for salmon lice treatments. Halsebakk does not think the lice problem will ever disappear. According to him, the key to everything is how you deal with the situation.
He believes 2017 will be an even better year for Silver, and emphasizes that if the industry grows, the need for the expertise of the company will also grow.
New boats and the acquisition of the competitor Bømlo Brønnbåtservice have led to a debt of more than USD 250m.
