Skretting and Longyang Fresh deepen partnership for Qinghai-Tibet plateau trout.

Skretting has signed an upgraded strategic cooperation agreement with Longyang Fresh, China’s largest trout producer, in a three-year deal aimed at advancing precision nutrition, supply chain integration and sustainable trout farming on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The renewed partnership builds on a long-standing collaboration between the two companies in feed innovation, nutritional management and farming practices for plateau trout. Over several years they have developed experience in high-altitude aquatic ecosystems, trout physiology and farming efficiency, providing the basis for what both sides describe as a strategic upgrade.

Under the agreement, Skretting and Longyang Fresh will work on precision nutrition solutions tailored to the plateau environment in Qinghai Province, characterised by low temperatures, high dissolved oxygen and relatively low pathogen pressure. Joint initiatives include the development of nutrition models adapted to high-altitude water ecosystems, use of global performance databases to optimise growth, health and feed efficiency, and raw material traceability systems aimed at lowering nitrogen and phosphorus discharge to reduce environmental impact.

“This strategic upgrade builds on years of successful collaboration and a shared long-term vision. Together, we will develop precision nutrition solutions tailored to high-altitude ecosystems, strengthen supply chain cooperation, and Skretting’s global strengths will be our effective support.”, said Miyan Ying, chairman of Longyang Fresh.

Longyang Fresh farms trout in Longyangxia Reservoir on the northeastern edge of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, using glacial meltwater from the Yellow River’s headwaters. The company highlights the absence of sea lice risk, antibiotic-free production and low-density farming in deep, low-disturbance waters, as well as the use of triploid, infertile trout that do not impact native ecosystems. It produces about 15,000 tonnes of trout per year, accounting for 98.8 percent of China’s total trout export volume.

By drawing on Skretting’s global supply chain network and raw material expertise, the partners aim to build a more stable and competitive supply base for plateau trout, improve efficiency and lower the overall carbon footprint of production. The companies say this should strengthen the international position of Chinese plateau trout as a sustainable, high-quality protein source.

“Longyang Fresh has achieved remarkable results in plateau trout farming. We look forward to integrating our advanced global nutrition technologies and sustainability expertise with the unique conditions of the plateau, co-creating solutions that deliver long-term value for the industry. This partnership reconfirms our market-leading position as a nutritional and functional partner for sustainable farming within the high-value sector, and demonstrates our commitment to increasing Skretting’s presence in China and in the wider Asian region “, said Maarten Bijl, Skretting CEO.

Longyang Fresh (Qinghai) Co., Ltd is China’s largest salmonids producer, with an integrated value chain from hatchery to sales, and is the only salmonids company in the country certified to ASC and BAP four-star standards. Skretting, headquartered in Stavanger, Norway, is the aquaculture division of Nutreco and produces more than three million tonnes of aquafeed annually across 18 countries.
