Norwegian salmon spot prices are expected to decline next week as harvest volumes increase following the Easter holiday period.
The spot price for superior 3–6 kg salmon is expected to fall to around EUR 7.02 (USD 8.20) per kg, down from an estimated EUR 7.38 (USD 8.61) this week. That represents a drop of roughly five percent week on week, according to seafood industry analysts.
The current week’s price already reflected a softer tone following the Easter holiday period, with further pressure expected as harvesting activity resumes after a week of limited activity.
The decline is linked to elevated harvest volumes combined with somewhat softer demand in the immediate post-holiday period.
Recent export data indicates the broader demand picture remains firm. Norwegian salmon supply grew 5.4 percent year on year in March, while demand expanded 11 percent year on year, accelerating from 8 percent growth in February and a 4 percent decline in January.
A second-quarter price estimate of approximately EUR 7.58 (USD 8.84) per kg remains in place, suggesting the current dip may prove temporary as the market normalises following the holiday disruption, according to one source.
