Infectious salmon anemia (ILA) is suspected at Salmar’s Store Kufjord lake location in Alta municipality, Finnmark county, Norway.

Salmar reported the findings to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority on May 31, after detecting positive PCR samples and histological changes indicative of ILA during a disease investigation, according to a statement from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority on Tuesday.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority plans an immediate inspection of the facility to collect follow-up samples for confirmation by the Veterinary Institute.

Authorities urge all individuals involved in activities related to fish farming in the area to exercise necessary precautions to prevent potential disease spread.
