Linda Sams to step down as Cermaq Canada sustainability lead.
Linda Sams, Sustainable Development Director at Cermaq Canada, is stepping down after seven years in the role and a 36-year career in aquaculture spanning Canada and Australia.
Sams has led Cermaq Canada’s Environment and Sustainable Development team since 2018, overseeing technical, regulatory, and compliance aspects of the company’s operations. Her remit included environmental management, corporate social responsibility aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and stakeholder engagement.
A marine biologist by training with a background in environmental toxicology, Sams has worked across all facets of the industry in senior roles at Marine Harvest (now Mowi), Tassal, and the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences. Her expertise includes fish health, research management, and government relations, with a focus on working alongside rural and remote communities, including First Nations.
Sams currently serves on the boards of the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance and the BC provincial advisory committee on ocean hypoxia, and recently joined the SeaBOS taskforce on biodiversity and ecosystems.
