Completion of new phase strengthens Innovafeed’s workforce, creating 40 new jobs in addition to the existing 170 positions.

French insect protein supplier Innovafeed has completed the third phase of expansion at its production site in Nesle, France.

This development significantly scales up its production capacities, following the €250 million Series D funding round announced in September 2022.

The expansion increases the total floor area to 55,000 square meters, enhancing larval production capacity fivefold and improving rearing conditions through automated and optimized production flow management. As a result, Nesle now holds the title of the largest insect production site globally.

The phased construction approach used for this expansion aimed to manage and mitigate risks associated with Innovafeed’s innovative industrial model. The first two phases, completed in 2020 and 2023, addressed technological challenges and established economic performance. This third phase is designed to reach target production capacity and profitability.

The expansion demonstrates the viability and scalability of Innovafeed’s technology, according to a press release from the company, enabling sustainable and efficient insect protein production for animal feed.

The company’s industrial symbiosis model achieves an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to other models without such integration. Major agro-industry leaders, including ADM and Cargill, support this low-carbon alternative, evidenced by over €1 billion in secured contracts over ten years.

The completion of this phase also strengthens Innovafeed’s workforce, creating 40 new jobs in addition to the existing 170 positions. These roles include production operators, maintenance technicians, and team coordinators, with most positions being filled through internal mobility.

Certified as a B Corp since 2022 and a member of the Next 40 for two consecutive years, Innovafeed aims to continue its contribution to developing a new, innovative, and impactful industrial sector.
