Norwegian Seafood Federation hires former NRK editor amid communications reshuffle.
The Norwegian Seafood Federation (Sjømat Norge) has appointed Eirik Koren, a former editor and journalist at NRK, to its communications, policy and strategy department. NRK is Norway’s public broadcaster, equivalent in structure and prominence to the BBC.
Koren will take up his new position in August. He previously served as director of sport and production at Warner Brothers Discovery, communications director at Pfizer, and has held roles in the PR and media sectors, including two stints at NRK as journalist and duty editor. He joins Sjømat Norge without a background in the seafood industry.
“I’m excited to join Sjømat Norge and work with one of Norway’s most important industries,” Koren said in a statement. “It’s a privilege to be involved in something that stretches from the very local to the global and high-tech.”
Kristin Langeland, director of the communications, policy and strategy department, welcomed the appointment: “Eirik is an all-rounder in communications and used to the fast pace of the news cycle. We also need people from outside the seafood bubble, especially when it comes to communicating our world to the general public.”
Koren will join Krister Hoaas, who recently moved from the aquaculture department into the communications division. Together, they will have responsibility for media engagement within the organisation.
“There’s a big job ahead of us in building knowledge of the seafood industry in Norway, and I’m confident Eirik will contribute positively to that,” Langeland said.
The appointment comes amid several changes to the communications team at Sjømat Norge. In May, communications manager Øyvind Haram announced he would leave for ScaleAQ, a supplier to the aquaculture industry. Henrik Horjen, another communications lead, also announced his departure after six years, moving to the energy company BKK.
