Trout export value falls 16 percent in August, but one Asian market surges

Norway’s trout exports slip in value, market mix shifts.

Norway exported 8,907 tonnes of trout worth NOK 638 million ($61.99 million) in August. Export value declined by NOK 124 million ($12.03 million), or 16 percent, compared with the same month last year. Volume fell 6 percent.

The implied unit value averaged NOK 71.6 per kg ($6.95/kg) in August. With value down faster than volume, prices were lower year on year.

Ukraine, Lithuania and the United States were the largest markets by value in August.

Vietnam recorded the strongest growth. Export value to Vietnam increased by NOK 16 million ($1.55 million), up 167 percent from August last year. Export volume to Vietnam reached 367 tonnes, up 186 percent year on year.
