Trout exports slump as February sales fall 21 percent

Weak month for Norwegian trout exports.

Norway exported 4,557 tonnes of trout worth NOK 446 million ($44.60 million) in February, marking a sharp decline compared with the same month last year.

Export value fell by NOK 117 million ($11.70 million), or 21 percent, year-on-year, while volumes dropped 23 percent, according to export data.

The United States, Ukraine and Thailand were the largest markets for Norwegian trout during the month.

Despite the overall decline, the United States recorded the strongest growth in value. Export value to the US rose by NOK 11 million ($1.10 million), or 14 percent, compared with February last year.

Volumes to the US reached 729 tonnes, up 17 percent year-on-year.
